Social Media Platforms

So many options…so little time!

As I continue to build the blog, I grow a greater desire to share my content. The most efficient method of sharing content is through social media.

Facebook has 1.65 billion active monthly users. Twitter has 310 million users. Pinterest boasts 176 million accounts. Statistics for other social media platforms are equally impressive.

Social media promotion is cost effective, can be very simple, and is quite accessible to mom bloggers like myself.

The best question I can ask regarding social media marketing is “Which platforms will best help me reach my blog goals and purpose?” I want to encourage mothers with tips, real life experiences, and a faith-filled perspective.

My target audience is women, mothers specifically. The challenge is to appeal to my target audience on platforms they are using the most and at peak times.

The Pew Research Center reports that 77% of online women are on Facebook and 3 times more women are using Pinterest than men, 44% of online women are regularly using Pinterest. According to Pew “Facebook continues to have the most engaged users – 70% log on daily, including 43% who do so several times a day.” Facebook and Pinterest are no-brainers for a mom blogger.

There are far fewer Instagram users in the world but 59% of those users log in daily. Instagram makes it more complex to drive traffic directly to my blog. Busy moms may like my posts but will they take the time to find a link in my profile and then head over to my blog? Good question.

Linked In is my platform of choice when I’m at work but can it help me reach my goals and purpose for my blog? No, probably not. Are there women on Linked In who would benefit from my content? Absolutely. Can I reach them through other platforms? Probably.

Twitter reaches large audiences but requires consistent activity to be very effective. Twitter does offer a direct link to my posts, for this reason I will use Twitter.

As a working mother of 5 and a student, I have limited time and resources to promote my blog. As I consider this and the information I’ve listed in this post, I will be using Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter to promote my content. Promotion will largely come from sharing my posts automatically to all of these platforms.

Readers: What do you think? Which platforms do you use the most? Where do you look for encouragement and household tips?
